Maseru – Lesotho’s three major political parties are nearing completion of their candidates list for launching of electoral campaigns for next year’s election planned for February 28 2015.
The All Basotho Convention (ABC) is nearing completion of its candidacy list for the 80 constituencies.
Most of our constituencies’ candidates have been elected as candidates to contest for the upcoming general election but we are yet to obtain full reports this week, ’Malehloka Raditapole, the ABC’s executive secretary told newsline365.
The ABC which leads the tripartite coalition government, held its constituencies’ elections on December 14 whereby candidates to stand for the general elections were chosen.
Led by former Lesotho’s Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili, the Democratic Congress (DC) has already lined up 71 constituency candidates who will battle it out for general election victory against the opponents. The candidates were inaugurated at the DC gathering in Berea district last Sunday.
The DC executive secretary Tsie Sekoere told newsline365 today the other nine candidates’ names were yet to be received by his office to complete the constituency candidacy.
“We hope by next week the list will be complete. In result of any complaints relating to any candidacy qualifications, the DC special committee will attend to such matters,” said Sekoere.
The Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) is to hold constituency candidacy election on December 21 after it completed candidacy nominations on December 14 at the party’s branches throughout the country.
“I can confirm that the choice of the LCD candidates at constituency level is to be held on December 14,” explained Mpiti Mosiuoa, the Executive Secretary of the LCD.
