MASERU- Exactly 15 days from now the turf will be set as a blistering stage for the Lesotho National Insurance Group (LNIG) Top 8 soccer championship.
The four last football teams that will take to the turf on March 21 from the Vodacom Premier League are Bantu, Matlama, FC Likhopo and the Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) after they clearly surged through in the quarterfinals.
Eager to send a caution to their rivals, Bantu, A Mat’so Matebele walloped Qoaling Highlanders with an aggregate of 11-1, a thriller only imaginable in distant history while Maseru’s Matlama, Tse Putsoa, narrowly saw their remarkable history against the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF0 with a 3-2 aggregate after an initial 2-1 win against the army side.
FC Likhopo made a solid showdown when they dumped Linare of Leribe in a 2-1 round-up, seeing Tse Tala of Leribe going for exit in this lucrative soccer show piece with a M600,000 prize money at stake.
On other side, the 2014 LNIG Top 8 winners Lioli of Berea were inflicted a hard to heal wound when the LCS handed them a 1-0 aggregate after a goalless draw on January 24. That fall from grace as Lioli are current holders of the same championship, left the club out of contest for the first prize money of M100,000.
The four teams that were booted out at the quarterfinal stage are each to pocket M30,000 as consolation for being among the top eight teams on the Vodacom Premier League table for the 2013/2014 soccer season.
Now, when the whistle will be blown on final weekend of the competition on March 21, Bantu will come to the fore, fresh from an exit from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Championship defeat to A S Magasport of Gabon in a 1-0 overall of a two-game tussle, against FC Likhopo at the Setsoto Stadium.
A winner in that battle will put them into the final against a winner between Matlama and LCS to decide on which clubs will fight for laying hands on the prestigious trophy. The second placed team will enjoy an M80,000 gain while the third positioned will go home with a M60,000 feat. The last one will get a M50,000 thank-you.
